Freedom to Be
“Freedom to Be” amplifies Indigenous voices on spirituality, land, colonization and the impacts of modern development. Read the report and watch the dialogue series to learn more.
From 2022 to 2024, the Center for Earth Ethics hosted the Freedom to Be dialogue series exploring the right to freedom of religion or belief for Indigenous Peoples—and its deep connections to land, culture, and climate justice. Launched in response to the landmark 2022 UN report on the status of the right to religion or belief for Indigenous Peoples, the series convened voices from Indigenous communities around the world to reflect on the report’s findings and share lived experiences. These conversations have now culminated in “Freedom to Be: Dialogues on Freedom of Religion or Belief for Indigenous Peoples,” a new report that brings together insights, challenges and recommendations for action.
