Maggie Greenfield
Consultant
Maggie Greenfield brings her passion for climate adaptation and environmental justice to her work as a consultant at the Center for Earth Ethics.
Prior to joining the Center, Maggie worked for two decades in urban river restoration, waterfront park and trail development, environmental and arts education and community engagement in the Bronx. She served for six years as executive director for the Bronx River Alliance and Bronx River administrator for NYC Parks. During her time on the Bronx River, Maggie worked in partnership with local communities to transform former industrial sites into waterfront parks and trails, restore habitat for the return of native wildlife, engage residents through hands-on volunteerism, and open up educational opportunities for youth to use the river as an outdoor classroom and pursue academic and career paths in the environmental sector.
Maggie’s academic background includes a bachelor’s of science in public health/environmental science and policy from UNC at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree in city planning from MIT. Maggie credits the Bronx for her training in environmental justice and is proud to live and raise her children there, together with her husband and dog Mitchell.
Maggie enjoys cross-cultural adventures and speaks rusty Spanish and Japanese that she learned while living and researching abroad in Osaka and Sendai, Japan; Guayaquil, Ecuador; and Tomé, Chile.
She also enjoys playing classical, bluegrass, and Scottish and Irish cello in small, friendly circles.
