Karenna Gore Joins Southern Climate Gatherings

Center for Earth Ethics Executive Director Karenna Gore traveled south in late October to participate in two significant climate and environmental justice gatherings: the Mississippi Statewide Environmental Justice Climate Change Summit in Jackson, and the Climate Underground Conference in Tennessee, which explored regenerative agriculture and other community-based climate initiatives.

At the Mississippi summit—produced and sponsored by Jesus People Against Pollution at Tougaloo College—Gore participated in a Self-Organized Dialogue as part of the Global Ethical Stocktake process ahead of COP30. The 90-minute session brought together scientists, faith leaders, activists, legal experts and community advocates, with poetry and song grounding the space. In addition to Gore, the speakers were:

  • Dr. Ben Chavis
  • Aaron Mair
  • Ben Jealous
  • Dr. Charlotte Keys
  • Deeohn Ferris
  • Artis Burney
  • Mary Flowers

They focused on “Solutions for Pollution,” offering reflections and recommendations shaped by lived experience of environmental injustice across the South.
