CEE’s Shannon M.D. Smith Article on St. Brigid Featured in FutureChurch Publication

CEE Project Manager Shannon M.D. Smith was recently featured in the Catholic publication FutureChurch for their Just Word Readings and Commentary series, which features “emerging voices offering inclusive, life-giving and liberating commentary.” Shannon’s essay, published in honor of St. Brigid’s Day (Feb 1), celebrates the woman, Goddess and Saint of Kildare, Ireland. St. Brigid, known as a “woman of peace,” is revered for her generosity, care for the poor and advocacy for the marginalized. Her legacy includes stories of selfless giving and hospitality, exemplifying the importance of community and social responsibility. Shannon’s essay also explores the significance of Brigid’s Feast Day—only named an Irish federal holiday last year—as a time for reflection, connection to nature, and commitment to justice and healing. The article calls for a renewed focus on love, compassion and solidarity as essential elements of spiritual practice and social advocacy.
