DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, April 23\, CEE Executive Director Karenna Gore will join Adam D Orford (Fordham Law School)\, Kit Kennedy (NRDC) and Hakan Yesilova (The Fountain Magazine) for an interdisciplinary conversation hosted by Fordham University’s Institute on Religion\, Law & Lawyer’s Work\, The Pastrana Foundation\, and the Peace Islands Institute. Panelists will explore how interfaith perspectives and legal expertise engage the urgent challenges of environmental and climate justice.  \n\n\n\nRecent debates over climate governance and regulatory authority have underscored how contested the foundations of environmental responsibility and accountability remain. Against this backdrop\, this interdisciplinary conversation will highlight how legal frameworks intersect with enduring religious traditions of stewardship\, solidarity and care for vulnerable communities. Grounded in the pursuit of the common good\, panelists will examine how law and faith traditions can deepen responsibility\, sustain hope\, and inspire compassionate action for the Earth and for one another in an ecological age. \n\n\n\nThe event is hosted in collaboration with Fordham Environmental Law Advocates and the Center for Earth Ethics.

SUMMARY:World Peace and Prayer Day:"All Nations\, All Faiths\, One Prayer"
DESCRIPTION:Established in 1996\, World Peace and Prayer Day was initiated by Chief Arvol Looking Horse\, a spiritual leader and keeper of the Sacred Pipe of the Lakota/Dakota/Nakota Sioux Nation. The gathering first brought together Indigenous Peoples of North and South America\, but spread to the rest of the world. \n\n\n\nOn June 20 and 21—the summer solstice—everyone\, regardless of origin\, nation\, religion or belief\, is encouraged to gather at sacred sites to pray: “All Nations\, All Faiths\, One Prayer.”  \n\n\n\nThere will be in-person programming centered at Mathó Pahá (Bear Butte) in the sacred Black Hills of South Dakota. Events will be live-streamed on from 10 A.M to 5 P.M. MT on Saturday\, June 20. DESCRIPTION:More than fifty years after the Clean Water Act established the national goal of making all waters fishable and swimmable\, recent legal decisions and rulemaking have dramatically weakened the Act by narrowing the definition of “Waters of the United States.” This redefinition threatens to remove federal safeguards from more than 80 percent of the nation’s wetlands and millions of miles of creeks and streams. This rollback comes amid persistent water pollution\, escalating climate-driven risks\, and ongoing environmental injustice\, raising the urgent question: Can we afford to weaken the legal protections that sustain life itself?  \n\n\n\nJoin the Center for Earth Ethics on Tuesday\, July 28 for an online forum on the legal\, ethical\, cultural and spiritual dimensions of clean water protection in the United States. SUMMARY:Women's Water Walk
DESCRIPTION:CEE is excited to co-sponsor the Women’s Water Walk\, a 113 mile women-led prayer walk to stop the proposed Constitution Pipeline. The walk\, which men are also encouraged to join and support\, begins September 19 near Damascus\, N.Y.\, and will continue for two weeks\, until October 4\, through towns along the proposed pipeline route. We will sing together as we walk and make prayers at the many rivers\, lakes and waterways that cross our path.  At the end of each day there will be a community gathering to discuss and develop a list of solutions\, actions and legislative agendas—focusing not only on what we seek to stop\, but also on what we are trying to build.
