SUMMARY:Pacific Wisdom for Global Ethical Stocktake: A Pre-COP Side Event
DESCRIPTION:This pre-COP official side event will explore the Pacific’s role in driving ethically-grounded climate action\, with a focus on the Global Ethical Stocktake (GES) initiative. The program features Anote Tong\, former President of Kiribati and current pro tempore GES leader\, Reverend James Bhagwan of Pacific Conference of Churches\, Maureen Penjueli\, Executive Committee Member of DAWN\, and Joeteshna Zenos\, Pacific Climate Finance and Development Practitioner. Samira Siddique\, director of strategic initiatives at Center for Earth Ethics\, will moderate. Established in 2025 under COP30 leadership\, the GES invited youth\, elders\, Indigenous leaders\, artists\, philosophers\, scientists and faith representatives to reflect on the deeper values that should guide climate responses. The Oceania Dialogue\, one of six regional gatherings\, centered Pacific voices\, assessing climate progress through an ethical lens and offering a values-based complement to the Paris Agreement’s Global Stocktake. As the GES develops\, this event will present a moral vision for achieving 1.5°C.

SUMMARY:Celebrating 30 Years of Religion and Ecology
DESCRIPTION:This conference will celebrate 30 years of Religion and Ecology as a growing academic field and moral force in society. The academic field arose from 10 conferences on Religion and Ecology\, organized by Mary Evelyn Tucker and John Grim from 1996-1999 at Harvard’s Center for the Study of World Religions\, resulting in 10 volumes on the ecological dimensions of the world’s religions. The work of hundreds of engaged religion scholars and theologians has now spawned 30 graduate programs in North America. In addition\, thousands of grassroots religious environmental programs have emerged to inspire transformative action for the well being of our common home. This conference will bring together a community of scholars\, students\, and practitioners to reflect on the growth of the field and how ecotheology\, environmental ethics\, and environmental justice are shaping its future directions.See the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology for further background on this field. \n\n\n\nThe conference is free and open to all\, but pre-registration is required. \n\n\n\nThe afternoon panels and presentations will be livestreamed. No registration is necessary to watch remotely. Just tune in here on October 16 from 12:45pm-5:30pm. \n\n\n\nOverflow Space: The main conference space is now sold out. But we have added on an overflow space in Niebuhr Hall at Yale Divinity School\, where the afternoon portions of the program can be viewed on a large screen from 12:45pm-5:30pm. Please note that registration for the overflow space is a separate registration list from the main event and does not include any meals. If you register for the overflow\, you will be ushered directly to Niebuhr Hall.  \n\n\n\nFor more information\, to see the full lineup of speakers\, and to register\, go to Eventbrite. \n\n\n\nAgenda (subject to change)Area Information for Attendees
