If you're just acting at the level of effect, you're never going to solve a problem. So what's the deeper level of cause? The modern mega-trends [of pollution and depletion] are happening because of human perception and behavior. The deeper level of cause is the illusion that we are separate from nature. And if you look in faith and wisdom traditions—especially Indigenous traditions—there are many teachings about how we are very much in an interconnected web of life. So the illusion of our separation from nature is actually the thing that's most important to break through on—because it's what's causing the crisis in the first place.
